Discovering Umbria
Umbria is the ideal holiday destination: a region of nature and parks, and cities overflowing with art and culture, but also offering open-air sports, internationally renowned events, and gourmet food and wine. All of which will make any stay unforgettable.
Umbria is a fine balance, a land that can shuffle its myriad facets and souls to compose a single fresco. It blends humanity with nature, and intense spirituality with secular pride. Each place has an unmistakable identity, the result of thousands of years of civilizations that have left dense layers of memories and timeless masterpieces. First the Umbrians, Etruscans, Sabines and Romans, and then the extraordinary Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Resourceful country folk have patiently modelled the land, draining and tilling it, planting olive groves and vineyards that not only produce exceptionally fine wines and oils, but have become the very symbol of the region.
Dotted with medieval towns and silent hermitages, the Umbrian hills are an enchanting sight. In just a few kilometres this region unfurls a wilderness of age-old beech groves, deep caves and mountains that are the subject of ancient legends.
Umbria is also a land of water, which gushes to the surface in springs and mountain lakes, flows in rivers that carve breathtaking stone gorges, and extends in marshes and artificial lakes that are naturally transformed here into nature reserves. Lake Trasimeno, the slow-flowing River Tiber and the Cascata delle Marmore waterfall look as though they were created specifically to inspire poets and painters.
At the end of the journey, there is a certainty: Umbria has a true vocation for beauty.
